I learned about Mijoté at dinner with a friend at Etra in Los Angeles. About a week prior to my trip to the Bay, I started asking anyone I met if they had any good recs, and our server told us I had to go to Mijoté. Without looking into it, and with no one to go with, I booked a table for two. I reasoned, worst comes to worst, I go by myself (I love a solo meal).
But then I made friends with my server at The Morris and ran into her again at the La Paulée afterparty, and after who knows how many glasses of wine I asked if she wanted to go and she said yes!
The next night, we met at Bar Jabroni (another spot you gotta try) for wine and then moved over to Mijoté for dinner. The space is small and intimate. It's a French tasting menu, and not unreasonably priced at 84 dollars a person, with optional additions. The wine list is dogmatically zero-zero/no added sulfur (at least from what I could tell). We got a few splashes of their BTG program and it was lively and easy drinking.
The service was timed perfectly, warm, and inviting. The use of local farms for sourcing was apparent in the quality and freshness of each dish. The pork was my favorite.
We brought a bottle of Raj Parr's Phelan Farm Chardonnay Rose 2023.
