On Thursday, I drove up to San Francisco for La Paulée, a Burgundy wine festival. I was volunteering for the weekend and was lucky enough to be staying with one of my oldest friends.
Before festivities started, my friend and I went out for Thai food at Kin Khao, a Michelin bib gourmand Thai restaurant in the financial district of San Francisco.
The meal was fantastic, the service spot on but not over the top, and the wine list concise, but with wines that paired perfectly with the food.
We got a bottle of Alzinger Riesling Smaragd Ried Hollerin 2023, a riesling from the Wachau region of Austria. At 13.5% it was fuller bodied and complex.
For food we ordered the hot wings, Khao yum, yaowaraj tofu, and the caramelized pork belly (by far both of our favorites for savory). For dessert we got the mango tart and the citrus cake. The cake was far better in my opinion but both were delicious. I also ordered a dessert cocktail called the Monta which tasted like a warm chai latte (YUM!).
